Safe and effective skin tag removal

Skin tags are small pockets of smooth, soft brown flesh that hang from your skin that can be problematic as they can easily catch on clothing, jewellery or towels.  They can also affect self-confidence.

Skin tags affect both men and women of all ages, although are most common in older people, and are usually found on the neck, arms and creases around your body. If you’re overweight or pregnant, you may notice you are more prone to skin tags. Unlike warts and verrucas, skin tags are not contagious.

What is a Skin Tag?

A skin tag is a harmless and benign skin growth that appears typically in and around skin folds (eyelids, neck, underarms, bra area and groin). The lesion is fibrous and vascular and can bleed easily if nicked. They appear in various colours, from flesh to dark brown. They may be slightly raised, or can have a stalk or neck like a mushroom, or they might have a flat neck. 

Clients that develop several skin tags may have a genetic predisposition as this condition often runs in families. They often start appearing with age, especially in people over 50 years of age.

Friction is also another contributing factor as they appear in the areas where clothes may rub, such as collar lines, bra straps, underarms and groin etc. Treatment with the CryoPen is quick and easy, and very successful. Very little evidence is left of the skin tags presence.

Once we receive your enquiry for treatment, we will book you in for an initial consultation with one of our experienced technicians to determine if the process is right for you. If it is, we will then agree a programme of treatment and book you in for your first session to remove the skin tags.

At your follow up session we can assess how effective the initial process has been and book you in for further sessions if needed.

How does cryotherapy for skin tags work?

Our fully qualified technicians use the CryoPen to target the skin tags. During your treatment, the CryoPen will aim a gentle stream of Nitrous Oxide at the skin tag, which will form a mild, white frost evenly over the lesion. The Nitrous Oxide destroys the skins tissue by freezing the intercellular fluid. It does not destroy healthy tissue as it targets the area to be treated only. During the treatment, patients may experience a sensation similar to a ballpoint pen being pushed onto the skin when the Nitrous Oxide reaches the bottom of the lesion.

Depending on the size of your skin tag and the number of tags you want removing, multiple sessions may be required.

Is skin tag removal effective and will there be any side effects?

It is very unlikely that the process of skin tag removal will be painful or give you any serious side effects. The treatment is quick and designed to remove the affected tag with minimal discomfort.

After each treatment session is completed, the treated area will be protected to allow it to heal, so there is unlikely to be any pain experienced. However, if you do have any problems with pain or discomfort, you can contact us immediately and we will get you straight in for an assessment.
