Botox® is a safe, effective and non-invasive treatment to reduce and prevent unwanted lines and wrinkles. It’s commonly used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines, but can also be used for lines around the nose and mouth to help relax the jawline or to smooth the chin. Botox® can also be used to minimise the appearance of neck bands, slim the face and lift heavy brows, leaving you with a softer and brighter appearance.

While Botox® is a prescription-only treatment, it is commonly injected by unqualified and irresponsible practitioners who are not governed by any regulations. At Laserways, all Botox® treatments in Newcastle and Durham are administered by fully trained and qualified medical professionals with advanced training in the use of Botox® and other aesthetic products.

Botox® is not just used in aesthetics and has been used by trained practitioners to treat a vast range of medical conditions. At Laserways, our medical professionals have advanced Botox® experience in its use for medical treatments such as treating migraines and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating such as under the arms).

How does Botox® work?

Botox® prevents the formation of fine lines and wrinkles by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscle being treated. The injected muscle can no longer contract, leaving a smooth appearance in the treated area and placing less stress on the skin, helping you to maintain a fresh and youthful appearance.

While the main purpose of Botox® is to temporarily “freeze” existing lines, it is also highly effective as a preventative measure to put the formation of future lines on pause and we highly recommend clients start treatment at the early stages of line formation.

Botox® is a brand name of a toxin made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and there are several different brands available all containing the same active ingredient. Unfortunately, as these products are a prescription only, it has been found that unregulated practitioners have been importing non-FDA approved products with unknown effects of these imported products. Here at Laserways, all our products are FDA approved and sourced from a UK-based pharmacy, prescribed individually to our client following a short consultation with the prescriber. Once the client has completed the consultation with the prescriber, they will then be able to book in for their treatment at a date most convenient for them. All Botox® prescriptions are valid for 6 months unless there has been a change in the client’s medical condition which our practitioners would need to be made aware of.

Is the treatment painful?

Most of our clients compare the sensation of the Botox® injections to a quick pinprick. There is a slight pinching feeling, but it only lasts for a few seconds. 

At Laserways, our Botox® injections require no anaesthetic, but a topical anaesthetic can be used if preferred.

Will I see immediate results?

Although most of our clients see an immediate improvement following treatment, it generally takes 7 to 14 days to take full effect. 

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effect after a Botox® injection is light temporary bruising around the injected area. This is completely normal and will resolve itself within days. Our medical professionals are highly experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to facial anatomy and pride themselves on their ability to avoid injecting close to vessel which reduced the risk of bruising. Therefore, the majority of our clients do not exhibit bruises or any other side effects following treatment.

How long will the results last?

The results from Botox® will last 3 to 6 months. After this point, the muscle action will slowly return and the lines and wrinkles will need to be treated again. However, the lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time.
